Saint John's Catholic Schools Week Celebrations|
The last week in January is traditionally Catholic Schools Week at Saint John's. The week is filled with classroom celebrations, all-school service projects, the book fair and special fieldtrips. The students and staff kick off the week with a special mass on Sunday. This year Joe was selected to read a petition and Annette and three of her friends were cantors, leading the congregation in singing. All three kids joined their classmates in singing a communion reflection song. They did a wonderful job.
School Open House|
Following the mass there was an open house in the school. Parents, family and friends were invited to visit the kids' classrooms, view some of their projects and artwork and chat with their teachers. The morning ends with a visit to the Men's Club pancake breakfast. Phil is the president of the Men's Club for the next couple of years. And Mrs. Castro and the Saint John's choirs provided the entertainment during the breakfast.
We had some wonderful winter snows this year. The mounds along the side of the driveway grew steadily all winter. The March snows provided enough white stuff for some wonderful sledding in both the front and back yards.
Through the Years|
My how these children have grown. Same sofa, same bunnies and same kids -- seven years older. The kids found this old photo of themselves from December 2000 and decided they wanted to recreate it, so they dug out their bunnies and sat down on the sofa and told Mom to get her camera. What a difference a few years can make.
Winter into Spring|
The kids all tried ice skating this winter. They thought it was fun, but the weather warmed up and the ice melted so now we'll have to wait until next winter to try it again. Once again this spring we all donned our Michigan State shirts and cheered for MSU in the NCAA tourney. We have taken a photo of the kids in their State shirts cheering for MSU every year since they were very young. One of these years MSU is going to win that darn tournament.
Carson's First Communion|
In April we traveled to Winona to celebrate Carson's First Communion with his family. Dan's family came from Chicago and Cate, Bob & Jer from southwest MN. We had a wonderful brunch and lots of family time together.
