Fall Fun in our Backyard|
We enjoyed another wonderful fall around the Klomp house. The kids just LOVED playing in the leaves in our backyard. Our woods were filled with the usual herds, gaggles, bands and flocks of wild creatures. Once again our gardens served as a wonderful buffet for the deer, and the squirrels found many an acorn in our backyard. A flock of wild turkeys came around for regular visits looking for a handout. This year we watched a pair of bald eagles build a nest and raise an eaglet in a big tree on the edge of a lake near the kids' school. This is a rare sight in the city so we feel blessed. The kids thought it was especially neat because their school mascot is an eagle.
We traveled to southwest Minnesota to spend Thanksgiving 2004 with the Sieves. Cindy's brother Dan made the trip from Chicago, along with his wife Gail and daughters Aaron and Aubrey. Cindy's sister Sue came from Winona with husband Jeff and children Walker, Devon and Carson. We all had a wonderful visit with Dad, brother Jer and sister Cate and her husband Bob. One of the highlights of the weekend was our shopping trip to Worthington where the kids stopped by to visit with Santa.
Winter arrived with the usual Minnesota snow and cold. We took full advantage of the first snows of the season to build a nice big snowman, the first of many we would build this winter. We had some fun indoors too. Annie enjoyed learning to sew. Her first big project was to make baby blankets for a couple of her teachers, Mrs. Yzaguirre and Mrs. Long. The girls continue to take music lessons at Children's Yamaha Music School in Roseville. They each played a solo and performed in the ensemble piece at their winter recital. After the recital we found out that Ms. Liz, their music teacher, was also pregnant so Shelby got to help Annie make yet another baby blanket.
In December the kids each got to perform in a musical program at school. Shelby's 1st grade class played census takers in the all-school program. She sang like a little saint. Annette (who now wants to be called Annette instead of Annie because she has another Annie and an Anna in her class at school) was a member of the 3rd - 4th grade choir in the program. One of her best friends Annie (yes ANNIE) is standing to her left in the photo. They sang and danced beautifully. She also played a piano solo (Jingle Bells) as part of the pre-program entertainment. Joe sang several little songs with his preschool class in their own little program a few days later. Afterward he got to visit with Santa for a few minutes. While he didn't have much to say to Santa at the time, afterward he thought that it was pretty neat.
Christmas with the Klomps|
Grandpa and Grandma Klomp arrived from Michigan for a visit in early December. They got to see the girls' Christmas program at school. Since they'd missed the girls' winter music recital, Annette and Shelby decided to treat them to a private music recital in our living room. The girls even made invitations and programs for this special little performance. They sang songs from their music class and played the piano. Annette acted as emcee. And while Gma and Gpa were here we also celebrated an early Christmas. As a special gift this year Gma and Gpa gave the kids Mickey and Minnie Mouse dolls and passes to Disney World for our upcoming Florida vacation in the spring. It was a big surprise and the kids were so excited.
Sieve Family Christmas|
We traveled back to southwest Minnesota to spend Christmas with the Sieves. As is our tradition we attended Christmas Eve mass at St Kilian Church. It is such a beautiful old church, and Cate and the rest of the musicians there made it another wonderful celebration. We had a great weekend together. We took so many photos of our time together that we couldn't choose just two or three to post here. Click HERE to see a slideshow of our favorite photos from the Sieve family Christmas.
